For Halloween this year, Mike and I dressed Eli up as an Ewok. If you don't know what an Ewok is, or feel like you should know what one is but can't remember (That's the camp I was in when Mike suggested it.) - it's from Star Wars - one of these:
We took the easy way out and purchased a bear costume from Wal-Mart (cutting off the blue bow), then modified an old brown t-shirt of Mike's for the hood. I just cut of the arms and sewed up the holes, then cut holes for the ears and added old twine and wood beads I already had on hand to embellish it a bit. I whipped out my mad-glue-gun skillz and gathered the fabric at a few key points to help it drape a little too.
Mike made the spear by first taking a two-hour walk and like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, tried out every stick he saw to make sure it was juuuuuuust right. Except instead of three sticks, it was three trillion. He then whittled his prized-piece a bit to make it smooth, and tied on a flat-ish rock from our pond to the end to make a child-safe spear.
Besides Mike's hunt for the perfect stick, we pulled this together in only a few minutes for a Halloween party we were headed to full of parents that didn't want to dress up but just wanted to take about a billion photos of their adorable children - all before bedtime of course.
Yeah, that's our new life. We don't dress up or stay out late. It's a wild one I tell ya.
There's a chin-strap that came with the costume, but Eli hated it so we didn't attach it together. Which meant this happened every .345 seconds.
So pretty quick, he ended up just looking like this. Just as cute.
