Apple Spice Cake with Caramel Frosting - The Southern Lady Cooks

Apple spice cake doesn’t last long and caramel frosting rounds off this cake. I love everything with apples and caramel! Great when you need a quick dessert as it uses a mix and is a simple and delicious cake that can be served anytime with coffee or as a snack with milk. I love making cakes from scratch, but there are times when you need something in a hurry and this cake is a quick recipe.

Required ingredients for the apple spice cake:

Betty Crocker Super Moist Spice Cake Mix with pudding in the mix

Eggs

Buttermilk

Cooking oil

Apples, peeled and grated or finely chopped (any type of apple will do)

Vanilla extract

cinammon

Ingredients required for the caramel frosting:

butter or margarine

Brown sugar

Condensed milk or regular milk

Confectionery sugar

Vanilla extract

Walnut pieces or nuts of your choice.
This cake is perfect for any occasion, but we especially enjoy it in the fall. Everyone will think this cake is made from scratch, it’s just that good! I think it’s even better the next day so you can easily bake this cake a day in advance. We love to experiment with recipes and adding the caramel frosting was the perfect complement. This apple and spice cake is wonderful to enjoy with family and friends.

  • 1 15.25 ounces Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix with pudding in the mix
  • 4th Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 Cup Cooking oil I used canola
  • 2 cups Apples peeled and grated or finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinammon

Caramel frosting

  • 1/3 Cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoon Condensed milk or regular milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Confectionery sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 Cup Walnut pieces or nuts of your choice.

Frosting instructions

  • Melt butter in a pan on the stove. Add brown sugar and cook until the sugar melts. Add milk, bring to the boil. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with the mixer and add more milk if necessary. Fold in nuts or sprinkle on top of the frosting. . Spread on cake.
