These chocolate applesauce brownies are so good and easy to make. Serve them with coffee for dessert or have one anytime with milk for a snack. They go wonderfully with a scoop of ice cream and are great for making hot fudge cakes. I’m always looking for something to do with a cup of applesauce that I left in the fridge and that is a way to use it up.
Required ingredients for chocolate applesauce brownies:
White granulated sugar
Chopped nuts, pecans, or walnuts (optional)
We love these brownies because the applesauce makes them very juicy. You can fill this up with powdered sugar or leave it out. These are made in a 9X9 so there is no big pan of brownies. Perfect for a small occasion! Sometimes you just want a smaller dessert.

Chocolate applesauce brownies
These brownies are really good and easy to make.
- 1 Cup All-purpose flour
- 1/4 Cup 100% cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 Stick or 8 tablespoons or 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 Cup Chocolate chips
- 1 Cup white granulated sugar
- 1 Cup Apple sauce
- 2 Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1/2 Cup Chopped nuts Pecans or walnuts, (optional)
In a large bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. In a smaller bowl, melt the butter and chocolate chips together in the microwave or on the stove. I make mine in the microwave and it takes about a minute.
Remove the butter and chips and stir until smooth, then add the applesauce and vanilla and mix with the flour mixture. Stir in eggs and nuts. Spray a 9 x 9 baking dish. Bake in the preheated 350-degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes until the intermediate tests are completed.
