And then I dreamed of them, thought of them, salivated at the idea and was obsessed for almost 2 months before I just couldn’t take it anymore and had no choice but to do them.
And they were lovely.
I mean, hands down one of our new favorite family recipes. There is no going back.
Is it cute Yes, but the salty peanut butter and granola and extra salt break it up. I couldn’t stop eating these and I’m not usually a crazy cute dessert person!
Ingredients for Muddy Buddies Marshmallow Treats
Most people have probably made muddy friends, haven’t they Puppy foodas I called it growing up. Most people have likely made rice krispie treats. But did you combine both? Here are the ingredients you will need:
- Rice Chex Cereal (Corn Chex or Wheat Chex also work)
- Chocolate chips
- peanut butter
- powdered sugar
- Mini marshmallows
Do you already have everything at hand? This recipe is dangerous because I almost always have everything to prepare at a specific time.

How to Make Muddy Buddies Marshmallow Treats
If you want a quick and easy guide on how to make these babies, you’re going to be making tons of muddy pals. Let them cool and set, then let them all stick together with melted butter and marshmallows. You’re welcome, I’ve just changed your life.
Here are a little more detailed instructions, which can also be found in the recipe card at the end of the article:
- Melt peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips over medium heat on the stove or in the microwave.
- Gradually combine the cereal and Pb / Choc mixes and stir until they are evenly coated.
- Let cool a little and then gradually add the powdered sugar and stir.
- Prepare a 9 × 13 baking dish with cooking spray and foil or parchment.
- Melt the butter, salt, and some of the marshmallows on the stove over medium heat or in the microwave. Heat it until everything is melted and smooth.
- Add the vanilla and stir everything back together.
- Pour over the muddy pals and mix everything well.
- Add the rest of the marshmallows and press the mixture into your prepared pan.
- Let cool a little, cut and serve.

Mix everything and eat warm. Gosh, you will thank me later !! But don’t eat them all! Save enough to make these marshmallow goodies!
How to store marshmallow goodies
When I’m just making muddy pals, I like to keep them in the fridge, but the marshmallow bar shape is all about room temperature. They stay sticky and tasty. Store it on top of your bowl with plastic wrap over it or with a lid if you have one.
How long do muddy buddies marshmallow treats last?
These bars last up to 3 days at room temperature, but they never lasted beyond day 2 with us!
Good luck buttoning your jeans up, but don’t you dare feel bad about it. Dessert is ok !!! It’s okay to just have one meal and goodies for a night. The next day, just eat healthy again and leave the sugar only for the weekend. Mmmmmmm, this one Muddy friends marshmallow treats are my new obsession!

Muddy Buddies Marshmallow Treats
Muddy Buddies and Rice Krispie Treats got married and had the most delicious irresistible baby ever!
- 1 12 ounces. crate Rice Chex Cereals *see Note
- 1 1/2 cups Chocolate chips
- 3/4 Cup peanut butter
- 3rd tablespoon butter
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 5 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 10 cups Mini marshmallows
- 1/2 teaspoon sea-salt fine-grained
Melt peanut butter, butter, and chocolate together, stirring frequently over medium heat or using a microwave.
Put 3 cups of granola in a large bowl. Pour 1 cup of your chocolate / peanut butter mixture over the granola. Repeat the process with the remaining granola and chocolate to distribute everything evenly.
Stir until the granola is evenly coated.
Let the mixture cool down a bit so it doesn’t get too warm.
Add 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix until combined.
Let cool for a few minutes so that the powdered sugar can set.
Add 1/4 cup more powdered sugar at a time until your granola is coated to your satisfaction.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Spray a 9 × 13-inch pan with nonstick spray and line it with a loop of foil or parchment paper. Spray again.
Place the butter, salt, and 8 cups of mini marshmallows in a very large microwaveable bowl or in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Microwave in 30-second increments or heat, stirring occasionally, until everything is completely melted and smooth.
Add vanilla and stir again.
Pour in the muddy buddies and mix well.
Add the remaining marshmallows while still warm and press them gently into the prepared pan (** see note).
Let them cool for an hour or two, then cut and serve!
** Using a spoon with some butter on it will allow you to squeeze the sticky, muddy pals into the pan without it sticking to your hands.
