  • 4th medium sized sweet potatoes peeled and sliced ​​or chopped (about 6 or 7 cups)
  • 1 Cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinammon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoon All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups Boiled sweet potato water
  • 5 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Ingredients for the crust

  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoon butter softened
  • About 10 tablespoons of ice water
  • Cover the sliced ​​or chopped sweet potatoes with water and cook just enough until tender. This takes about 10 minutes. They should be soft enough that you can pierce a fork. Drain and reserve 1 1/2 cups of water before cooking the sweet potatoes. Mix the sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour in a bowl.

  • Spray a 10-inch iron pan with cooking spray or use a 9 x 13 baking dish. Pour in the cooked sweet potatoes, pour 1 1/2 cups of water over the potatoes. Mix in the vanilla extract. Sprinkle with sugar and spices. Cut the 5 tbsp butter over it into pieces. Then make your crust or use a purchased pie crust on top.

Instructions for the crust

  • Mix salt in flour. Cut butter in flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add water until you can work with the batter. Roll out on a floured surface and place in a pan or casserole dish over the cobbler.

  • Bake the cobbler in a preheated 400-degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until the crust is brown on top. Can brush the crust with melted butter or egg white for better browning.
